Hours after the Global launch, MediaTek Showcased the worlds first True Octa-Core Chipset in India. It was one-of-its-kind launch from the chipset maker in association with Intex. This is probably the first time that an Indian manufacturer has been used to be the first one in the world to carry a new technology in a smartphone. The new phone from Intex is a 6-inch android device, which runs the 2 GHz Octa-core CPU. The phone has not been named yet, but will be available in the markets from January 2014.

The new chipset is expected to be available on other Android Jelly Bean devices in the coming month and would hop over to phones with the KitKat Android OS by early 2014. Talking on the Intex association, Dr Finbarr, MediaTek’s General Manager – International Sales & Marketing said, “We associated ourselves with Intex first as they showed an aggressive stance towards the new chipset.” He also added “More Indian mobile and tablet manufacturers would be using the new MediaTek Octa-core chip in their respective devices soon.”

Over that, MediaTek has plans to foray into the populating smart watches and wearable’s category soon. The company is exploring opportunities here and if all goes well an enabling technology will come from the MediaTek factories by the end of 2014. However, they are still cautious of the fact that the current generation of smart watches are not doing super well and people are very slowly warming up to them.
