At least 7 people were shot in "execution-style killings" in 3 homes along a rural road in Pike County, Ohio, law enforcement officials said on Friday.

At least five adults and two children, possibly all from the same family, were killed, Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine and Pike County Sheriff Charles Reader said in a statement.

Police arrived on the scene shortly after 8:30 a.m. local time.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation's crime scene search unit and cyber crimes unit were headed to the scene about 75 miles (120 km) east of Cincinnati, the Ohio Attorney General's office said.

No one has been taken into custody, according to the office, which oversees the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

"We are not aware of there being an active shooter," said Jill Del Greco, a spokeswoman for the attorney general's office.

The Chillicothe Gazette newspaper showed a picture of three ambulances lined up along a wooded and rural road. It said there were multiple crime scenes, citing a sheriff's office.

Sheriff's offices did not respond to requests to comment.
