While the UK is filled with university cities where accommodation is cheap, many students spend hundreds on just one week of rent.

Student consultancy Student.com has released data on the most expensive cities in the world for student accommodation, asking users of the site how much they paid per week in rent between 2015 and 2016.

While typically expensive big-name cities feature on the ranking, there are also some unexpected results, with smaller cities also making the list.
