The 25 best restaurants in the UK, according to the French government

Earlier this month, French officials published La Liste - a ranking of the 1,000 best restaurants in the world based entirely on an algorithm which analyses diners' online reviews.

The UK popped up on the list on many occasions.

While many of the restaurants featured in appear in Waitrose's Good Food Guide and The World's 50 Best Restaurants ranking, their positions are often very different, meaning diners and food critics don't always see eye-to-eye.

La Liste collects reviews from sites like Google, Tripadvisor and the Michelin Guide to find the restaurants with the best reputations, giving each a score out of 100. So far, it has collected almost one million reviews on restaurants in 135 countries worldwide.

From home-grown produce at L'Enclume in Cumbria to molecular gastronomy by Heston Blumenthal in Mayfair, here are the UK's 25 best restaurants, according to the French:
