The Las Vegas gunman's bullets reportedly hit aviation fuel tanks near his hotel
Although bullet holes were found on the massive circular tanks, the rounds had failed to pierce through, according to the Review-Journal's source who the newspaper said was knowledgeable of the ongoing investigation. The tanks were 1,100 feet from the concert site, where the Route 91 Harvest country music event was being held.
FBI agents reportedly inspected the tanks, which construction crews have since repaired and painted, and measured the direction of the gunfire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, the hotel where Paddock fired on a crowd of about 22,000 people below.
The two windows that Paddock broke in order to fire his weapons had direct views of the concert venue and at the fuel tanks, the Review-Journal reported.
At least 58 people were killed and 489 were injured after Paddock fired on the concert attendees. Paddock had a cache of firearms in his room, at least one of which had a legally obtainable "bump stock" modification that allowed him to fire rounds much faster than a semiautomatic rifle.
