India ranks 127th out of 149 countries for overall gender parity, according to a report by the World Economic Forum. While it has risen by eight places overall since 2022, it remains below most of its Asian counterparts and African nations such as Kuwait, Myanmar, Japan and Gambia. The country ranks 26th globally for educational attainment but is only 116th for wage equality for similar work. In addition, only 8.9% of Indian companies have women in top managerial posts and just 1.8% have female-majority ownership. Women also represent just 15.1% of India's parliamentarians.
