According to police, the collision killed at least 4 people and injured about 150 people. About 15 people are very seriously injured and a police spokesperson said the death toll was expected to climb.

German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung is reporting the trains crashed into each other head-on. One of the trains derailed following the crash and several carriages were overturned.

Local media also reported that emergency services were at the scene, aided by at least 8 rescue helicopters, but police said the scene was still very confusing. Roads all around the crash have been closed.

The cause of the collision is not yet known.
