Authorities respond to reports of a plane that took off without permission at Sea-Tac Airport in Seattle

Authorities in Seattle, Washington, are responding to an incident involving an aircraft that took off without permission on Friday night.

The US Coast Guard said it was aware of the situation happening at SeaTac Airport, NBC News reported. The plane was allegedly "flying around Puget Sound," before later reports indicated there was a "large smoke plume" at Ketron Island. Rescue boats were headed to the scene.

Alaska Airlines acknowledged the incident in a statement, saying "We are aware of an incident involving an unauthorized take-off of a Horizon Air Q400. We believe there are no passengers on board. More information as we learn more."

An FAA representative did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for information.
