The government has now made cash payments optional and has empowered businesses, small traders, government organisations to pay wages digitally through online mode.

The Govt has not banned cash payments. The ordinance was taken up after an amendment to the Payment of Wages Act.

This was done to protect the exploitation of workers and is only meant for the payment of wages under the Labour Act.
