Chris Christie wants you to have student debt

Chris Christie, the Republican governor of New Jersey and a presidential contender, gave a speech at Iowa State University on Thursday where he stated debt-free college is wrong, according to Politico.

Christie argues that since college gives you an economic boost in life, it's only right to pay for that benefit.

"If college graduates are going to reap the greater economic rewards and opportunities of earning a degree, then it seems fair for them to support the cost of the education they're receiving," he said.

And he pounced on Democrats for proposing such college affordability plans saying, "That is a typical liberal approach. It is wrong."

His words follow recent heated exchanges between members of both parties about who's to blame for extreme levels of student debt. Sen. Elizabeth Warren called out both Democrats and Republicans about their college affordability policies in a speech she delivered at the headquarters of the American Federation of Teachers on Wednesday.
