Dustin Poirier has pegged his next opponent.

After a disappointing loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov on Saturday where Poirier was defeated by submission in the third round, he expressed that he was unclear about his future in the sport.

It appears Poirier has reached clarity and has decided he wants a rematch with Conor McGregor, according to his Twitter post.

"I think me and Conor running it back makes a lot of sense at this point," Poirier tweeted.

The two first met in the Octagon in September 2014 when Poirier was still competing as a featherweight. Heated press conferences and interviews leading up to the bout ended with a statement victory from McGregor. Poirier was defeated by technical knockout just 1:46 into the opening round.

The contest marked the last time Poirier competed at 145 pounds, while it brought McGregor closer to his first UFC title as the 2015 Featherweight Championship.

Poirier moved up to lightweight and has since amassed a 9-2 record with one no contest.

Now, it appears he wants a chance to avenge the loss.

McGregor has not competed since being defeated by Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in October 2018. He announced his shocking retirement from MMA in March 2019 but has recently expressed interest in fighting again before the end of the year.

Poirier is one of several potential opponents McGregor was interested in facing in his comeback, who also hopes for a rematch with Nurmagomedov. Whether it comes to fruition is to be seen.
