  • Former porn star Stormy Daniels is suing President Donald Trump, arguing that a 2016 "hush agreement" she had with him, which was meant to secure her silence about her alleged sexual encounter with Trump, is invalid.
  • The civil lawsuit filed in Los Angeles alleges that Trump never signed his portion of the agreement, under which both Daniels and the then-presidential candidate were identified under false names.
  • Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, facilitated the agreement and a $130,000 payment for Daniels, but Cohen has denied that it was intended to keep the woman quiet about the alleged affair.

Stormy Daniels, the former adult-film star who claimed she had a sexual encounter with Donald Trump more than a decade before he won the White House, says a "hush agreement" between herself and Trump is invalid.

A civil lawsuit filed on behalf of Daniels on Tuesday argues that the agreement, executed shortly before the 2016 election, identified Trump and Daniels under the aliases, David Dennison and Peggy Peterson. The lawsuit alleges that Trump never signed his portion of the agreement, NBC News reported.

Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen facilitated a $130,000 payment to Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford.

The lawsuit accuses Cohen of trying to keep the woman quiet about contacts with Trump that she claims to have had between 2006 and 2007. The encounters would have occurred shortly after Trump's wife, Melania, gave birth to their son, Barron.

"To be clear, the attempts to intimidate Ms. Clifford into silence and 'shut her up' in order to 'protect Mr. Trump' continue unabated," the lawsuit alleges.

Daniels had talked about the alleged affair publicly in a 2011 interview with a celebrity tabloid. She teased details more recently during an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

The entertainer's allegations have been a persistent thorn in Trump's side, as Daniels makes it clear that she wants to speak more openly about the alleged affair.
