Goa exit poll: It's neck-and-neck battle between Cong-BJP in Goa

The CVoter exit poll predicts a neck and neck battle between the Congress and the BJP in Goa.

None of the parties seem to be gaining a clear majority in the 40-member state assembly. The ruling BJP is expected to win anywhere between 15-21 seats in North and South Goa, CVoter exit poll reported. The Congress is projected to win 5 to 9 seats in North Goa, and between 6 to 10 seats in South Goa.

The fate of Aam Aadmi Party's debut in Goa, seen as an interloper by opponents, hangs in the balance. CVoter predicts a narrow margin of 0-4 seats for the predominantly north-Indian party.

An alliance of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), Shiv Sena and Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) is also competing for the 40-member House. The BJP, which had a pre-poll alliance in 2012, went alone this time after the MGP snapped the partnership.

Other parties are expected to capture 2 to 8 seats in the state assembly.

If these figures turn out to be accurate, a hung house becomes a very real possibility in the country's smallest state.

Goa, which went to polls on February 4, had a record-breaking 83 per cent voter turnout. The counting of votes in Goa will take place on March 11, along with four other states - Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Uttar Pradesh, where Assembly polls were held.
