IT Dept cracks whip on defaulters – 18 names out!

The Income Tax department today published a third list of 18 tax defaulters including gold and diamond traders. The dues totaled to a whopping Rs 1,150 Crores.

These 18 defaulters have either gone untraceable or have inadequate assets to pay. This is the third list in 2015 after a list of 49 defaulters with tax liability of over Rs 2,000 Crores were released in two installments.

"The total tax default by these 18 defaulters under the personal Income Tax and Corporate Tax category is Rs 1,152.52 crore. This is the third list put in public domain by the IT department," a senior official said.

A whopping Rs 779.04 Crores are default of income/corporate tax has been reflected in the name of one Mumbai-based Uday M Acharya (late) and his legal heirs Amul Acharya and Bhavana Acharya. The department has asked these defaulters to pay their tax arrears ‘immediately’.
