Know how the Markets fared today

The Nifty consolidated around the 8,442 levels with the Index losing 10 points in trade today as traders remained bullish on the near term prospects of the market. Nifty's Advance Decline Ratio was at 12:13 with Bharti Airtel and BPCL hitting fresh highs on the Index.
The top gainers on the Nifty included auto ancillary giant Bosch, Kotak Bank, ahead of its bonus issue adjustment and Idea Cellular. whereas stocks that lost ground included Tata Motors, Tech Mahindra and Hindalco.

Meanwhile on the Sensex the shares that posted gains were Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Auto and Axis Bank while Cipla, ONGC and Vedanta fell on the 30-share index, which closed 75 points lower at 27,946.

The Bank Nifty shut shop unchanged at 18,580. The CNX IT Index fell 0.3 percent to 11,180 while mid-priced stocks saw some positive action. The CNX MidCap Index added 0.8% to 13,313 points and the CNX Media Index was up 1.2 percent to 2,256 points.

Stocks that saw positive action included Oil marketing companies that gained ground on expectations that the ongoing reforms in the sector will yield good results within a year. Japanese brokerage Nomura raised its price target on Indian Oil Corp.

Agri and irrigation related stocks were in demand after the government announced a 50,000 crore rupees allocation, over five years, to boost irrigation in the country.
