Mukesh Ambani does everything KING Size. Now full-group domain changed to ‘.JIO’!

Jul 10, 2015, 13:50 IST
What seems as a rigorous promotion of brand ‘Jio’, Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Industries has decided to do away with ‘.com’ and instead move to ‘.JIO’ as a generic top-level domain.

This domain will be used across the Reliance empire.

"Reliance has applied for multiple generic top-level domains based on various brands it is known for and owns. Usage and release for public would be based on our brand strategy and business needs," an RIL source told Economic Times on the condition of anonymity.

Reliance Industries is also mulling to use up to 200 second-level domains for its different businesses and departments. This number might increase to 400 second-level domains in the second year and around 600 in the third year.

"RIL would like to acquire the gTLD .JIO and use it actively as part of our corporate branding strategy, to make it easier for people to reach us on the internet. A few of our corporate websites, including those of different businesses and departments, will be housed under the ".JIO" gTLD," the source further told the financial daily.
At present, RIL group owns more than 1,100 domain names to protect its brand name in the web arena.

ET reported that the ability to choose a preferred second-level domain has a direct impact on the marketing strategy and customer experience.

By having a relevant URL, there is a higher chance of the customer being satisfied with the web experience and returning again.

And a positive customer experience also attracts new customers, especially through social media.
