President-elect Joe Biden in a statement Saturday called for unity in the US after major news outlets declared he had won the 2020 election, ousting President Donald Trump.

"I am honored and humbled by the trust the American people have placed in me and in Vice President-elect Harris," Biden said in a statement Saturday. "In the face of unprecedented obstacles, a record number of Americans voted. Proving once again, that democracy beats deep in the heart of America."

The president-elect said it was "time to put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation."

President Donald Trump on Saturday refused to concede the election, falsely tweeting he "WON THIS ELECTION, BY A LOT!" Trump's campaign has waged legal battles in several states, including Michigan, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Georgia, and Nevada, to challenge the election results.

While major outlets, like CNN, MSNBC, and the Associated Press, declared Biden victorious Saturday, Trump was seen golfing at his golf club in Sterling, Virginia.

On Friday morning, Insider and its election partner, Decision Desk HQ, projected Biden as the winner of the 2020 race. Other news outlets, including CNN, MSNBC, and the Associated Press, called the race in Biden's favor on Saturday morning after Biden secured a 30,000 vote lead in key battleground state Pennsylvania.

"This election is about so much more than @JoeBiden or me," Vice President-elect Kamala Harris tweeted Saturday. "It's about the soul of America and our willingness to fight for it. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Let's get started."

"It's time for America to unite. And to heal," Biden said.
