There are a variety of methods that resellers use when it comes to flipping sneakers.

Many resellers focus their business on turning fast, small profits by selling hyped shoes shortly after they purchase them at release, a strategy known as "quick flipping."

Isaac Davydov, a 19-year-old sneaker reseller, uses a more advanced method known as "holding." It's a slower process that allows for even higher returns on investment.

Davydov's method has proven effective. The teenager made six figures in sales last year - and made five figures on some individual holds.

"For every single shoe, there's a different way to hold them," Davydov told Business Insider in an interview. "A lot of people think it's just like, they release, you buy them from stores, and then you hold them. But that's one way to, in most cases, lose money."

In another article, Davydov explained how he predicts exactly what will do well - or poorly - on the resale market, down to the shoe size that will be the most popular.

"It sounds funny because most people who do holds have a few mess-ups," Davydov said. "But it just became so intuitive for me where it was like, I knew which shoe was going to go down, I knew which shoe was going to go up. It's kind of like stocks."

Davydov once made over $20,000 in profit from holding and selling 22 pairs of the same Air Jordan sneakers. This was just one of many holds that has brought him thousands of dollars in profit.
