Road construction is going in top gear; Nitin Gadkari may achieve his target

If the current pace of road construction goes on, Road Ministry may achieve its target for the fiscal.

Road Minister Nitin Gadkari informed presently road construction in India accelerated to 20 kilometres per day and constructing 25 km per day will be achieved soon.

"We'll touch our target of 30 kilometres per day in another five-six months," said Gadkari.

The government had allocated Rs 57,000 crore for constructing 10,000 km of greenfield highways.

In order to solve stuck projects, Gadkari-led road and transport ministry proposed formation of a dispute resolution mechanism for early implementation of stuck projects.

Investment of over Rs 25,000 crore in nearly 14 road projects are stuck due to various reasons including.

"The emphasis now has been on awarding the projects under the innovative hybrid annuity and toll-operate-transfer mode so that there are more opportunities for private sector investment," Gadkari said.
