Government is keeping a close eye on how well the startup action plan is shaping up

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the Startup Action Plan in January this year amidst a lot of hullabaloo, and if reports are to be believed, the Indian government is busy reviewing the plan so that it can be aware whether or not the plan is moving in the right direction.

As per reports, DIPP is collating the progress that has been made on the plan so far, and the report it prepares will be shared with Niti Aayog, the government’s think tank.

DIPP recently revised the patent rules so that start-ups can get a conducive environment, after which it has now put together a group of 280 experts, including lawyers and consultants, who would be assisting these start-ups in filing their patent applications.

As per the amended patent rules, patents can be registered faster than before, and companies who follow the definition of 'start-up' also stand eligible for special benefits. Other than this, the government also wants to open incubation centres all across India so that the start-up movement can be spread to tier-II and III cities, with an increased focus on the north eastern states.
