Steve Mnuchin's wife apologizes for calling a woman 'adorably out of touch'

Louise Linton, the wife of US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, apologized for her sniping at a commenter with a passive-aggressive remark on Instagram.

"I apologize for my post on social media yesterday as well as my response," Linton's statement read on Tuesday. "It was inappropriate and highly insensitive."

Linton issued the statement after her Instagram post went viral Monday night.

In the photo, Linton and Mnuchin are seen disembarking a government jet. The photo caption read: "Great #daytrip to #Kentucky! #nicest #people #beautiful #countryside #usa"

Soon afterward, commenters chastised Linton, calling her trip a "little getaway."

Linton fired back with her own remarks:

Linton has since made her Instagram account private.
