These are India’s top 10 'most livable' cities, according to the government's Ease of Living Index 2020

  • The cities were ranked in two categories⁠.
  • 111 cities participated in the assessment exercise that was conducted in 2020.
  • Bengaluru emerged as the top performer among the cities, with more than one million population in the ease of living category.
  • While Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla ranked the highest in less than one million population category.
The union minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, released the rankings of the Ease of Living Index (EoLI) for 2020 on March 4.

The index ranked participating cities, across India, based on the quality of life, economic ability of a city, and sustainability, spanning 13 categories like education, health, housing and shelter.

The rankings were announced for cities with a population of more than a million and cities with less than a million people. 111 cities participated in the assessment exercise that was conducted in 2020.
