Akhilesh Yadav-led Uttar Pradesh government has decided to construct a new dam on Gomti river in the state capital to solve drinking water demands of the residents of Lucknow.

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has shown the green signal to the project at a meeting held at his official residence, said an official spokesman.

He said that a new dam will be built near Janeshwar Mishra park to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply to the people of the city, added the official.

The chief minister also asserted that for smooth movement of large number of vehicles, a four-lane road will be constructed along the Sharda canal between Faizabad and Kanpur roads. He also added that the two projects will prove useful in improving drinking water and traffic system in the city.

In addition to this, he has approved construction of a separate link road for elderly and physically weak pilgrims in Sangam area in Allahabad. He has also directed to construct a four-lane bridge on Ganga river from Sangam to 1,250 metre downstream.
