Oxford University is popular with European royals.

Universities like Yale are famous for producing diplomats world leaders, but some students are already at the top of the career ladder before they enroll.

Royals may already have a career path set out for them, but scores of future kings, queens, princes and princesses travel the world to study subjects that will prepare them for life as a head of state.

We've listed some of the best universities in the world attended by living monarchs and their children throughout the years, ranked by their position in the QS World University Rankings for 2016-17.

While many European rulers attended historic institutions like Oxford and Cambridge, royals from other parts of the world - such as Prince Hazim of Brunei - chose former polytechnics to complete their education.

The subjects they studied are diverse, from Sports Science at Exeter to Mathematics at MIT.
