US Business Schools are throwing in scholarships galore to attract the smart Indian students

If education consultants like Admissions Gateway, ReachIvy, WhiteGlow and others are to be believed, the premier business schools in the US are keen on admitting more Indian students because of the brilliant academic performances in the past. For instance, Rashmita Redkar, a B school aspirant was offered $100,000 from Harvard, $120,000 from Kellogg, $60,000 from Tuck and $54,000 from Wharton to study in the US. She eventually chose Harvard.

The leading B schools of the US are finding some of the best candidates in India and believe they will maintain the academic excellence of the institutes. The consultants say that there has been a 30%-40% rise in scholarships offered by the colleges.

Among other aspirants who got the benefits of the scholarships are Rohit Sudheendranath, Swagnik Bhattacharya who were offered $100,000 by Harvard and $100,000 by Kellogg respectively.

Admissions Gateway told the Economic Times that scholarships awarded to its clients rose to Rs 25 crore across the top 15 B-schools in 2016 as compared to Rs 18.7 crore in 2015.

Not only have the B schools, merit-based scholarships seen a steep rise at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Virginia, and Dartmouth as well. Yale University told ET it spent around $5 million (Rs 33 crore) of its own funds to support students from India, who numbered 179, third after China and Canada.
