Former Republican Sen. Tom Coburn said that President Donald Trump has "a personality disorder," putting him in a cadre of current and former anti-Trump Republican senators that includes Sen. Bob Corker and Sen. Jeff Flake.
"We have a leader who has a personality disorder," Coburn told The New York Times on Wednesday, "But he's done what he actually told the people he was going to do, and they're not going to abandon him."
Coburn is a former medical doctor. He served as the junior senator from Oklahoma from 2005 to 2015, when he was replaced by James Lankford.
Coburn joins other Republicans who have recently come forward to criticize Trump.
Flake stated that he was not running for reelection on Tuesday, citing the direction of the Republican Party as the reason for his eventual retirement after his term ends. Corker, who is also not seeking reelection, has been engaged with a bitter feud with the president on Twitter that started after Corker criticized Trump's approach to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and called the White House "an adult daycare center."
