Prime-time news debate host Arnab Goswami has resigned as the Editor-in Chief of Times Now .
He was the Editor-in-Chief and President, News, of Times Now and ET Now.
In a meeting today that took place between 4:30 pm to 5 pm with his core team of editors and reporters, he announced his resignation. A source revealed that he said 'the game has just begun' at least 15 times.
Goswami said ,"Independent media is going to thrive now."
He told his team he is not looking at quitting TV and the media industry any time in near future.
Sources from within the team told Business Insider he is likely to start something on his own. The move, apparently in favour of turning an entrepreneur and starting his own venture, comes after several days of murmurs about his likely exit.
Sources also revealed exclusively to Business Insider that he is looking at taking along with him he has considered his core team members from the Times Now newsroom.
Goswami started his career at The Telegraph in Kolkata. Within a year, in 1995, he joined NDTV where he was one of the more prominent faces along withVikram Chandra and Rajdeep Sardesai . He later joined Times Now as its Editor-in-Chief in 2006. Arnab created a dedicated viewer base of people who loved his direct interrogative style of debates, and also those who hated him.
Thanks to his high-volume NewsHour on primetime, Times Now was able to sideline a lot of the older players in the English new space.
At the time of publishing this article, a meeting by Arnab with the staff is underway in the Times Now newsroom.
