Chris Christie's approval in New Jersey has hit a new low

A new Fairleigh Dickinson University PublicMind poll released Tuesday shows only 35% of New Jersey voters approve of Christie's performance compared with 51% who disapprove. These are the worst PublicMind numbers yet for Christie. In January, his approval stood at 39% with 47% disapproval in the same poll.
Krista Jenkins, the director of the poll, attributed the results to voter discontent after Christie's February 24 budget address, in which he called for reform in the state's pension system with a proposal to freeze current plans.
"His budget address attempted to hit the reset button on the gaping pension hole, but did little to assuage the broad concerns of the public," poll director Krista Jenkins said.
The poll contained one positive sign for Christie. Though his approval was at a low point, it found about 50% of New Jerseyans like his personality. This includes 21% who like the governor in spite of disliking his policies.
Although New Jersey voters aren't crucial to the 2016 race, the Real Clear Politics average shows Christie is also trailing in key GOP presidential primary states with only 8% support from likely Republican voters. That meager number puts Christie in sixth place among possible GOP contenders.
Christie said, "I'll take my chances on me," when asked about his dismal numbers at CPAC last week.
"If I decide to run for President, I'm not worried about what polls say 21 months before we're going to elect the President of the United States. If I decide to run, let me tell you one thing, I will run a hard, fighting campaign," he said.
