Economists estimate that claims for unemployment insurance fell slightly to 270,000 last week, from 271,000 in the prior period.
The tally of claims is still near a post-crisis low.
"Claims have been very low, suggesting that there are fewer involuntary layoffs than the recent trend," Nomura economists noted in their weekly preview of the economy.
