Economists forecast that sales rose 0.6% month-over-month, according to Bloomberg.
Last month, sales fell by 0.3%, below expectations of a 0.1% dip.
"Consumer spending was a key driver of economic growth in the second quarter, and the data suggest that this may have briefly faltered in the third," as Business Insider's Akin Oyedele noted last month.
