A recent survey by Citi Research found consumers spend slightly more per person at pizza chains like Pizza Hut and Papa John's than at fast food chains like McDonald's and Taco Bell.
Little Caesar's pizza was the exception, coming out to $3.86 per person. The brand is known for its $5 pizza deal.
At the higher end were fast-casual eateries like Chipotle.
The average person spent $11 at the burrito chain - more than twice the cost of eating at Mexican fast food chain Taco Bell.

With an average check of $12.17 per person, Red Robin was the cheapest chain restaurant on a list of casual dining chains compiled by Morgan Stanley.
The chain is known for its burgers, shakes, and bottomless fries.

The most pricey chain on the list was seafood and steak restaurant Eddie V's, with an average transaction of $88.
Chains including Red Lobster and Outback fell in the middle, costing about $20 per person.
