Instagram is making a big change today
Steve Kovach/Tech Insider
If you've been on Instagram this week, you may have noticed people panicking about the ways Instagram is changing.
Turns out, the algorithm isn't the only big change coming to the photo and video platform in coming weeks.
Soon, all users will be able to upload videos up to a minute in length, as opposed the previous 15-second time limit.
The feature is available to some users as of Tuesday and will be rolling out to all Instagrammers in the next few months, according to a company blog post.
iPhone users will also be able to make videos using multiple clips from their camera rolls. This new feature is available with iOS version 7.19 in the Apple Apple store.
So, why the change? Instagram said in a press release that it saw a 40+% increase in the time users spent watching video on the platform in the last six months, so given those numbers, it seems that more people want to watch more videos. Hopefully people are more excited about the video change than they were about the looming switch from chronological Instagram timelines to algorithmic ones, which got many users in a tizzy.
