Second prisoner in the van with Freddie Gray denies saying Gray tried to hurt himself
CBS Baltimore
Hours after Baltimore Police submitted findings from their investigation to prosecutors, the second prisoner to be picked up in the police van Freddie Gray was riding in is telling his side of the story.
Donta Allen suggests he was misquoted in a Washington Post report that cited him saying he thought Gray was trying to hurt himself.
Baltimore CBS affiliate, WJZ interviewed Allen Thursday. Allen says "All I did was go straight to the station, but I heard a little banging like he was banging his head."
The Post report published Wednesday night cites a police document which reportedly contained a statement from Allen that says he believed Gray "was intentionally trying to injure himself."
Allen denies that, telling WJZ "they trying to make it seem like I told them that, I made it like Freddie Gray did that to hisself [sic] ... why the [expletive] would he do that to hisself [sic]?"
Allen says he now fears for his life, telling WJZ "I had two options today right, either come and talk to y'all and get my credibility straight with ya'll and not get killed by these [expletive] or not tell a true story."
