These are the 30 blue collar jobs with the biggest gender pay gaps
The gender wage gap is a tricky issue to untangle.
Why, in 2013, did the median woman working full time earn 78 cents for every dollar earned by the median man, as reported by the White House?
In an interview with Freakonomics.com, Harvard economist Claudia Goldin discussed some possible phenomena contributing to the wage gap. She argued that the demands of caregiving often cause women to make choices about their careers that tend to favor flexibility over higher salaries.
While the origin of the gender pay gap is complicated, it's still interesting to look at which career fields see larger imbalances. We can see which occupations feature the largest disparities in earnings by looking at data from the US Census Bureau.
Here are the blue collar jobs - occupations or occupational groups that involve mostly manual labor - with the largest pay gaps between full-time, year-round male and female workers as of 2014.
