Many IT firms are of the opinion that a staggered off is better as this way the employees do not feel the burnout before the weekend.

A mid-week break is a welcome move in the city, which is used to weekend offs and even state government recognises it by keeping the bars and pubs open till 1 am.

“Mid-week break will be a breather for all of us. We all get exhausted by Friday and it also hampers our productivity at times. I don’t mind working on a Saturday,” said an IT professional, Divya Jain.

Reportedly, a US-based business Minacs has adopted the mid-week break culture. The company has given its employees of an option between Wednesday and Thursday, followed by an off on Sunday.

However, some employees say that working after an off is not a good idea.

“You can at least party on Fridays and Saturdays and then rest on Sunday. With a mid-week break, you can’t enjoy to the fullest,” said Ajinkya Shekhar of a reputed IT firm.

It is to see how malls and restaurants will also react to this shift as they are jam-packed on weekends.
