According to Amnesty International report 2015, ‘Death sentences and executions 2014’, an alarming number of countries used death penalty to tackle real or perceived threats to state security and public safety linked to terrorism, crime or internal instability. As a result, there was a sharp spike in death sentences- at least 2,466 imposed globally, a 28 per cent rise in 2014 compared to 2013.
