The NYSE is the common abbreviation of the New York Stock Exchange, the main American stock exchange, and the largest in the world. It's owned by International Exchange.

The exchange is physically located at 11 Wall Street in Manhattan.

Trading was halted on the stock exchange on Wednesday morning. While the NYSE isn't the only exchange in the US, it is the largest, and it facilitates the trading of stocks for the hundreds of companies listed on the exchange.

Any orders to buy or sell that were still open at the time that trading was halted have now been canceled.
