  • A high school pitcher got the game-winning strikeout to send his team to the state tournament, but didn't immediately celebrate with his teammates.
  • The pitcher instead ran to the batter, a childhood friend, and consoled him in a display of good sportsmanship.

Mounds View High School pitcher Ty Koehn created a viral moment when he opted not to celebrate his baseball team making the state tournament, but to console the batter he struck out.

Koehn got the game-sealing strikeout on Jack Kocon of Totino-Grace High, and while his team ran onto the field, Koehn went to Kocon, a close childhood friend, and consoled him.

"I knew the game was going to keep going or it was going to end right there," Koehn told Bring Me the News. "I knew I had to say something. Our friendship is more important than just the silly outcome of a game. I had to make sure he knew that before we celebrated."

Many people were moved by the gesture.
