Jaguar launches its first electric car I-PACE in India with a starting price of ₹1.06 crore

The Jaguar I-PACE is powered by a 90 kWh battery, which translates to 294 kW power and 696 Nm torque. The 5-seater SUV can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than 5 seconds – 4.8 seconds to be precise.

“The 90 kWh battery is positioned within the floor, between the axles, giving a low centre of gravity and near perfect weight distribution,” said the company.

The Jaguar I-PACE also boasts of world class interiors. The car is equipped with the new Pivi Pro infotainment system. It also has a Smartphone Pack with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto alongwith Bluetooth technology which can pair two phones at the same time. And if you run out of charge, the car also comes with a wireless charging device.

To smoothen the transition to electric, Jaguar has ensured that its 22 retail outlets across 19 cities are electric-vehicle (EV) ready with over 35 EV chargers installed and more underway. The car will use chargers that are a combination of 7.4 kW AC chargers and 25 kW DC (fast) chargers. “The installation of this charger at the customer’s house will be done by Tata Power, and will be coordinated via Jaguar Retailers,” said Suri.

The 5-seater car has already won several awards at the World Car awards – including World Car of the year, World Car Design of the year and World Green Car of the year.

Jaguar’s high-priced car comes at a time when India is still seeing its EV adoption catch up. And Jaguar’s MD believes that the car will fit right in with the EV’s growth trajectory in India.

“With the growing customer consciousness with regard to the environment, especially in cities, more OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) launching EVs and policy push by the government towards faster adoption of EVs, we expect exponential growth in EVs over the next 5-10 years in India,” Suri said.
