Wabtec inaugurates engineering & tech centre in Bengaluru

New Delhi, Dec 12 () The US-based rail equipment company Wabtec Corporation on Thursday said it has inaugurated an engineering and technology centre in Bengaluru.

Wabtec India Engineering and Technology Centre (WITEC) is a world-class facility designed to support growth and innovation, the company said in a statement.

The company is building upon its long history in India with this centre, said Sujatha Narayan, Regional General Manager - India region, for Wabtec.

"Wabtec will occupy five floors of the building in (Bengaluru). It represents a USD 5-million investment into Wabtec's capabilities and presence in India. WITEC will host engineering teams spanning across the company's digital electronics portfolio and will feature cutting edge labs," the statement said.

These include validation labs for distributed power, positive train control, trip optimizer, electronic air brake, signalling systems, EdgeLINC and many other products for Wabtec's Advanced Train Automation solutions, it said.

"Our engineering team in India has been essential to bringing breakthrough technologies to the industries we serve," said Dominique Malenfant, Global Chief Technology Officer, Wabtec.

It also establishes a collaborative environment for India team to drive innovation along with Wabtec's development hubs in Europe and the US, Malenfant added.

The new centre has over 600 employees. The team is expected to grow to over 1,000 by the end of 2020 and will also include partner resources.

Wabtec has 3,000 employees in India making it the largest rolling stock and rail equipment company in the country. NAM NAM ANU ANU
