Mobile phone users might have to spend notably more for their recharge packs after the general election, as reports indicate that telecom firms are gearing up for a fourth round of tariff hikes in recent times. According to a report by brokerage Axis Capital, a meaningful hike of approximately 25% by operators is anticipated soon.

Bharti Airtel net profit tanks 31% to ₹2,072 cr in Q4

Telecom operator Bharti Airtel on Tuesday posted a 31 per cent drop in consolidated profit to Rs 2,072 crore in the March quarter. The company had registered a profit of Rs 3,005.6 crore in the year-ago period. The consolidated revenue of operations increased 4.4 per cent to Rs 37,599.1 crore during the quarter under review from Rs 36,009 crore a year earlier.

BSNL to launch 4G services across India in August; to use indigenous technology

State-owned BSNL will start rolling out 4G services across the country from August, using completely indigenous technology in line with the government's "Atmanirbhar" policy, according to official sources. BSNL officials claimed to have recorded peak speed of 40-45 megabit per second on the 4G network which has been rolled out in the premium spectrum band of 700 megahertz (Mhz) as well as in 2,100 Mhz band during the pilot phase.
