A major accident was averted somehow on Trivandrum airport after a Jet Airways pilot landed his flight between Doha and Cochin on Wednesday with only 250 kg of fuel left in the aircraft.

"We have grounded the pilots of the flight and will audit the fuel uplift policy of the Jet Airways," said a senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation official, who did not wish to be identified.

The fuel left is a concern because a 737 aircraft requires at least 200 kg of fuel to taxi for ten minutes, said the official.

The flight between Doha and Cochin (9W 555) was operated with 142 passengers and eight crew members on board, reported the Economic Times.

The official said that the flight could not land on Cochin due to poor visibility and took three rounds. The plane was then diverted to Trivandrum, where it landed after three failed attempts with only 250 kg of fuel left.
