US Naval Air Station in Florida on lockdown after reports of an active shooter

An active shooter has caused a US Navy base in Florida to enter lockdown.

Jason Bortz, spokesman for NAS Pensacola, confirmed to the Pensacola News Journal that an active shooter was reported sometime around 7 a.m. Friday.

Both gates are closed and the base is on lockdown, accoridng to the paper.

A spokesperson for the Escambia County Sheriff's Office told the paper they are working to "take down" an active shooter.

According to reports, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office has said at least 10 patients are confirmed.
