Diesel cars sales tanks, at its lowest over a 4-year period

Around four years back, Diesel cars in India had a share of nearly one in every two cars, but now, it has come down to half of that, which means that out of every four cars sold in India, only one is diesel-operated.

The reason behind this could be the thinning gap between petrol and diesel prices, while the SC-imposed ban on diesel cars (engines above 2,000cc) in the Delhi-NCR region has also played a major role in this fall in the sales of diesel cars.

Dealerships now have a huge stock of diesel cars, which is why companies are forced to offer discounts and freebies to attract customers. As per industry officials, this trend is not going to go away easily, because car replacement cycles in bigger cities are already getting short and the extra price for diesel cars takes a long time to recover.
