An Emirates plane from Dubai to Maldives carrying 309 people on board was forced to land in Mumbai because of smoke coming out of the cockpit and cabin.

All passengers and crew have been evacuated out of the main cabin and are reported to be safe.

It was after the pilot sent an SOS to Air Traffic Controllers in Mumbai that authorities swung into action. As per reports, the Coast Guard rushed ships out on stand-by so that the plane doesn’t face any problem in crossing the sea to reach the international airport.

Airport authorities also arranged for ambulances and emergency services in case of mishaps.
