In Pics: The devastation caused by Cyclone Fani in India’s East Coast

Extremely severe cyclone storm cyclone Fani, which hit Odisha coast near Puri on Friday morning at 08:00 hours , triggered heavy rains in parts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh, while gusty winds uprooted trees and electricity poles, officials said.

About 20,000 people were shifted to 126 relief camps in Srikakulam district, where seven 'mandals' (blocks) are likely to be affected by the cyclone.



Three Indian navy's warships -- Sahyadri, Ranvir and Kadmatt -- with relief material and medical teams are tracking extremely severe cyclone Fani and will be the first responder.

The ship sailed south of the cyclone to be able to start rescue operations even as other naval vessels remain on standby at Vishakhapattanam.

Naval divers teams have also moved to Odisha from Vishakhapattanam have been following the progress of the Cyclone both on water and via satellite.

The cyclone is expected to cross Odisha coast between Gopalpur and Chandbali around Puri during forenoon on Friday.
