Taiwan-based Foxconn is looking to ramp up its Make in India plans. It will more than double its smartphone manufacturing capacity at the Andhra Pradesh factory this year.

"The intent is to take total production capacity to 2.5 million smartphones a month by the year-end and add 1,000 people to its existing workforce," one executive said. "The number of clients could also double," the second exec said. The expansion may incur a "few million dollars" of money.

Foxconn’s 500,000 square feet complex currently makes about 1 million smartphones a month. It has 25 assembly lines and has 6,000 employees.

Foxconn declined to comment on the plans.
