GST to cross April 1 deadline, likely to be rolled out by July 1

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who heads the GST Council, said that the deadline to roll out GST might be deferred to July 1, after the ninth meeting of the GST Council came to an end.
Earlier, it was decided GST would be rolled out by April 1 this year. The meeting, however, clearly failed to break the deadlock between the States and Centre over who gets to administer the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
While the states seek sole powers to control assessees with annual turnover of up to Rs 1.5 crore, Centre feels states do not have the expertise to administer levies like service tax.
The next date for the meeting hasn't been decided yet.
