Economists forecast that the index came in at 101.5 for October, according to the Bloomberg survey.
That would be a drop from the previous month when the index climbed to a post-recession high of 104.1.
For what it's worth, the index touched 105.6 in August 2007, as Joe LaVorgna, chief US economist at Deutsche Bank, pointed out earlier.
