The The Nifty surged 61 points to 8,577. The Advance-Decline Ratio was at 42/8 with Tata Steel, Bharti, Vedants and Lupin taking the first four top spots on the Nifty's gainers list. On the losers' side of the index were Asian Paints, GAIL and Mahindra and Mahindra on the Index.
Broader indices were upbeat too. Major gains were seen in the CNX 100, CNX 200 and CNX 500 Indexes. The Bank Nifty edged up in initial trades. Sectoral indices such as CNX Metal, CNX IT and CNX Energy posted smart upticks.
